Office Snack Trends for 2027 from the Vistar North Show
Crafty's Senior Merchandising Manager Vaibhav Shastry breaks down the 2027 snack trends he spotted at the Vistar North Buying Show, and what they mean for your office pantry.

Employee snack preferences are changing, and office pantries are changing with them. Functional drinks are taking off, protein is finding its way into just about everything, and snacks are starting to look more like mini-meals. For workplace leaders, the challenge is staying ahead of these trends and knowing which products employees will actually reach for.
We're seeing it firsthand across Crafty-powered pantries. In Q2 2026, instant meals grew 187%, while sports and protein drinks jumped 173%. By Q3, beverages made up 34% of pantry spend, nearly catching up to snacks. Employees aren't just looking for something to tide them over anymore. They want products that work harder for them, whether that's a boost of energy, more protein, or a quick meal between meetings.
Brands are responding with new ingredients, formats, and innovations designed around how people eat and drink. The trade show floor offers an early look at which ideas could become tomorrow's pantry staples.
That's why Crafty Senior Merchandising Manager Vaibhav Shastry spent two days at the Vistar North Buying Show in Atlantic City, connecting with brands and getting a firsthand look at what's coming.
Let's dig in on the trends worth watching and what they mean for your office pantry.
Key Takeaways
- Hydration Is Getting an Upgrade: From coconut water to electrolyte-packed drinks, employees have more ways to hydrate based on their needs.
- Function Goes Beyond Energy: Brands are turning to ingredients that support focus, calm, and clarity, giving employees more options beyond caffeine.
- Texture Is Taking Center Stage: Crunchy, crispy, and layered protein snacks are bringing more variety and indulgence to better-for-you snacking.
Meet Vaibhav
Vaibhav Shastry is Crafty’s Senior Merchandising Manager, responsible for finding snacks and drinks that work as hard as the employees enjoying them. He looks at every product through a workplace lens. Is it easy to grab between meetings? Does it deliver protein, fiber, or steady energy to help employees power through the afternoon without a sugar crash? Can it hold up inside a pantry? Does it deliver enough value to justify a permanent spot in the pantry?
Vaibhav works closely with brands, distributors, and strategic partners to discover exciting new products, handpick the ones with the most potential in office pantries, and bring them to workplaces nationwide. He pairs that firsthand expertise with real pantry data to strike the right balance between everyday favorites and new products employees will love.
If you've watched Snack Scoop, you've already met Vaibhav. He co-hosts our snack trend series with Becca, dishing on what's new, what's gaining momentum, and what's worth the hype. He's also the genius behind one of our most mind-blowing Snack Hacks: the Crispy Uncrustable. Seriously, how did we go this long without toasting one?
What's the Vistar Show?
The Vistar North Buying Show is an annual trade show that brings together snack, candy, and beverage brands with the operators who bring their products into workplaces. Vistar, a Performance Food Group company, is also one of Crafty’s key distribution partners.
For our team, it’s a first look at what’s next before it reaches the shelf. Here’s what we go to find:
- Emerging Trends: The flavors, ingredients, and formats brands are betting on next
- New Launches: Products worth testing in Crafty pantries
- Product Changes: Early notice on reformulations, packaging updates, and more
- Brand Partnerships: Long-term programs that bring more value to our clients
This year, Vaibhav spent two days exploring the show floor in Atlantic City. (Curious how far things have come? See our 2024 recap.)
We caught up with him to hear what stood out, what surprised him, and which trends could be headed to your office pantry next.
What Were You Looking for at This Year’s Show?
I went in with three priorities, all focused on bringing more value to Crafty-powered pantries in 2027.
- Find the next pantry favorites: There's no shortage of brands chasing the latest trends, but that's the easy part. The real test is whether we can stock a product consistently, whether it makes financial sense for our clients, and whether employees will keep reaching for it once the novelty wears off.
- See what's new from brands our clients already love: I had our purchasing data pulled up as I walked the floor, so I knew exactly which brands were performing well. I wanted to know what else they had coming. New products? New flavors? Different sizes? Packaging that might work better in an office pantry? If employees already love a brand, that's a good place to start when looking for the next product to test.
- Make our clients' pantry budgets go further: I was looking for opportunities to bring clients better value on the products they invest in. By strengthening our partnerships with brands, we can help clients get more out of their budgets, keep their employees' favorites stocked, and make room for new products without driving up costs.
What Was the Biggest Trend at the Vistar Show?
Hydration, hands down. It was everywhere on the show floor, but what caught my attention was how brands are approaching it from two different angles.
- Natural Hydration: Think coconut water, prickly pear, and even banana-based drinks. Coconut water is already a proven favorite in our pantries, with C2O Pure Coconut Water leading the juice category. Mojo Coconut Water caught my attention at the show, especially its chocolate coconut water. Seriously, it's outstanding. You get the hydration benefits of coconut water with a little indulgence mixed in.
- Functional Hydration: This is where brands are adding more to the drink, from electrolytes and vitamins to protein, adaptogens, and nootropics. Wet Hydration stood out with its zero-sugar, zero-calorie drinks packed with electrolytes, vitamins, and antioxidants. Leisure is taking a different approach with ingredients like ashwagandha and magnesium. More brands are also reaching beyond energy with ingredients like L-theanine and GABA, positioned around focus and a calmer afternoon. We’re already seeing demand for functional drinks in our pantries, with fairlife Core Power leading sports and protein drinks. For more on what employees drink, see our hydration report.

What Other Office Snack Trends Stood Out?
Quite a few! Some were new discoveries, while others confirmed that trends we've been tracking are officially going mainstream.
- Texture Takes Center Stage: Protein bars are getting a serious texture upgrade. Quest’s new Crispy and Stacks bars bring more crunch and layers to compete with indulgent favorites like Barebells, whose Cookies & Cream bar is our top seller. As GLP-1 use shapes eating habits, brands are making every bite more satisfying.
- Pickle Goes Mainstream: Pickle has officially graduated from novelty to mainstream. Quest is launching a dill pickle flavor, and when a brand that big gets behind a trend, you know it's gaining traction.
- Protein Gets More Creative: Fidmi Protein Balls, X-Bar, and MadeGood are bringing more variety to protein snacks. Jams caught my eye with an Uncrustables-style sandwich packing around 10g of protein. Uncrustables is our top-selling frozen item, so Jams is on my First Taste list. I might be a little biased after my Crispy Uncrustable hack.
- Snacks Are Becoming Mini-Meals: Little Sesame's single-serve hummus and Purely Elizabeth's new breakfast options show how brands are moving beyond traditional snacking to offer quick, satisfying meals between meetings.
How Are Snack Packaging and Sizes Changing?
Brands are putting just as much thought into how products are packaged as what's inside. A few things caught my attention:
- Smaller Sizes Are Getting Smarter: Single-serve options are gaining ground, especially as GLP-1 use shifts eating habits toward smaller portions. Catalina Crunch showcased its 1.23 oz bag, while Ruger introduced a single-serve wafer that could work well for offices watching their budgets.
- Bulk vs. Single-Serve: Skinny Dipped is a great example. Many offices stock larger packs in bulk bins, but single-serve makes it easier to grab on the go and track consumption. Bulk cuts packaging waste, while individual packs offer more portion control. It really comes down to what works for your pantry.
- More Drinks Are Moving to Cans: ITO EN is moving Tea's Tea to aluminum cans, and Hint is introducing new canned flavors. Both are already pantry favorites, with Oi Ocha leading cold tea and Hint Watermelon topping flavored water. Changes like these are worth watching so we can keep employee favorites stocked without interruption.
- Displays That Do the Selling: Archer's custom magnetic jerky rack caught my eye. It's a simple idea, but making a product easier to spot and grab can make a real difference in what employees choose.
What’s Driving 2027 Office Snack Trends?
It comes down to how people eat and work today. We're seeing some big shifts in consumer habits, and they're already influencing what brands are making and what employees reach for in our pantries.
- GLP-1 Is Changing Portions: Smaller sizes, more protein, and satisfying textures are gaining attention as GLP-1 use grows. 8.5% of adults now use GLP-1s, up from 4.8% last year, while 48% of users are buying more portion-controlled foods.
- Protein Is the New Standard: Nearly half of adults (48%) want more protein, up seven points year over year. Brands are responding with new formats, from protein balls to upgraded sandwiches.
- Drinks Are Doing More: Hydration, energy, and protein are turning beverages into snacks of their own. 68% of consumers sometimes have a beverage as a snack. Across Crafty pantries, beverages now account for 34% of spend.
- Office Days Are Getting Busier: Office visits hit a post-pandemic high this summer, while half of all meals now take less than five minutes to prepare. Convenient options like single-serve hummus and grab-and-go breakfasts fit right into that routine.

Spill It: Which New Snacks Caught Your Eye?
Let's just say my sample bag was packed when I left Atlantic City, and here are a few that stood out.
- Little Sesame Single-Serve Hummus: It's a premium product with a price to match, but the quality delivers. It fills that gap between a quick snack and a full lunch. I was impressed enough to send samples straight to our CEO.
- Barebells Banana Bread Protein Bar: Barebells Cookies & Cream is already our top-selling bar, so I'm always interested in what they're launching next. Banana Bread was my favorite, with Cookies & Caramel and Peanut Butter close behind.
- Saint James Yerba Mate: Yerba mate already has a loyal following in our offices. Saint James offers another option at a more accessible price point, so I'm getting samples in front of clients who already stock the category.
- UnReal Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups: These are already our top seller in sweets and candy, and the brand keeps gaining momentum despite competing in a quickly growing field. Bonus points for being Boston-born, especially for our clients who love stocking local brands.
- Poshi Marinated Veggies: Poshi brings together two growing trends: tangy, pickle-inspired flavors and fresh, charcuterie-style snacking. All the flavor of a charcuterie board in a convenient, veggie-forward snack.
- Classic Cookie: This one performed well in our First Taste program, and the brand is excited to grow with us. I'm a cookie guy, so naturally, I'm rooting for it.
How Should Workplaces Plan Their 2027 Office Pantry?
You don't need to chase every trend. Start with what your employees already love, then look for opportunities to bring something new into the mix. Here's where I'd focus:
- Cover Both Hydration Lanes: Pair natural options like C2O coconut water with functional drinks for mood, vitamins, or energy.
- Shake Up Your Protein Shelf: Keep the bars employees love, but introduce new flavors like Barebells Banana Bread, formats like protein balls, and textures like crispy bars.
- Make Room for Mini-Meals: Single-serve hummus, protein-packed PB&Js, and fiber-rich breakfast options give employees something more substantial throughout the day.
- Bring on the Bold Flavors: Pickle is officially mainstream. Try a tangy, savory option like Poshi Marinated Veggies to see if the trend has staying power in your pantry.
- Rethink How You Serve: Mix mini-portioned snacks for grab-and-go convenience and portion control with bulk options that reduce packaging waste.
- Don't Forget the Treats: Not everything needs a functional benefit. Sometimes a great cookie or chocolate peanut butter cup is exactly what someone wants.
The good news? You don't have to guess. I use data to back up my product decisions, and you should too. Let employees vote, test new products through First Taste, and track what actually gets eaten. Pair that with our quarterly recommendations and Pantry Intelligence Index to see what's trending across workplaces like yours.
