Data Bites: The Top Employee-Voted Office Snacks

Understanding employee preferences has always been part art, part science.

Workplace leaders have no shortage of employee feedback. It shows up in Slack messages, quick conversations in the kitchen, emails, surveys, and passing comments during the workday. The challenge is collecting feedback in one place and turning it into actionable insights.

Just as Crafty pioneered pantry consumption data, we're continuing to expand how workplace teams understand employee preferences. Earlier this year, we launched Employee Voting, a new feature that gives workplaces a centralized way to collect employee feedback. This new source of insight, alongside consumption data, allows workplace teams to better understand what their employees want to see inside the workplace pantry program.

Here's an exclusive look at the voting data and the office snacks employees are requesting most across Crafty-powered pantries.

What the Voting Data Reveals About Office Snacking Preferences

The products employees request offer insight into how employees want to feel at work and the habits they're trying to build. While not every vote turns into a pantry selection, employee feedback provides a valuable glimpse into the products people associate with wellness, productivity, convenience, and enjoyment.

Looking across the top-voted products, a few clear themes emerge:

  • Employees are prioritizing protein and functional nutrition.
Protein shakes, jerky, and protein bars dominate the top rankings. This reflects a broader shift toward performance-oriented snacking, where employees view pantry offerings as a tool to support productivity rather than simply satisfy cravings.
  • Better-for-you options continue gaining ground.
Several top-voted products combine indulgence with wellness benefits. Brands like UNREAL, LesserEvil, and Realsy offer recognizable ingredients, lower sugar content, or cleaner formulations while still delivering on taste. Employees are showing that wellness and enjoyment are not mutually exclusive. They want both.
  • Familiar favorites still matter.
Not every top vote went to a functional or wellness-focused product. Goldfish, Cheez-Its, M&M's, and Diet Coke all earned significant support. This reinforces that employees still want familiar products that make the office feel welcoming and enjoyable.

Connecting Employee Demand and Employee Behavior

While qualitative data reveals intent, quantitative data reveals behavior, helping workplace teams understand not only what employees want, but what actually becomes part of their daily routines.

The strongest pantry programs use both to validate employee demand, optimize pantry inventory, and make more informed purchasing decisions. Together, these insights help teams balance employee preferences with real-world consumption patterns.

Qualitative data (Employee Voting) helps answer:

  • What products are employees requesting?
  • What trends are emerging?
  • What do employees want less of?

Quantitative data (Consumption Data) helps answer:

  • What products are consumed most often?
  • Which categories drive the most engagement?
  • What items generate waste?
  • Where is your pantry budget going?

Turning Pantry Insights into Action

Collecting data is only valuable if it leads to better action. Here are three ways workplace leaders can use both voting and consumption insights to improve their pantry programs.

  • Look for overlap between votes and consumption.
Products that receive high vote counts and strong consumption represent clear winners. These are the products employees actively request and consistently enjoy once they're available.Prioritize these items when allocating pantry budgets.
  • Identify unmet demand.
Voting can reveal products employees want but aren't currently receiving. If a product earns strong support but isn't regularly stocked, consider testing it in a limited rollout and monitoring performance. Small experiments can often uncover new pantry favorites.
  • Reallocate budget from underperformers.
If an item receives little employee support and consistently shows low consumption, it may be time to remove it and reallocate that budget elsewhere. Using both voting and consumption data together can help workplace teams confidently identify low-impact products and make room for items employees are more likely to value and consume.

Conclusion

Employee pantry preferences are constantly evolving, and understanding them requires more than a single source of data. While consumption data shows what employees choose, voting data provides valuable insight into what they want, helping workplace teams make more informed decisions about their pantry programs.

Together, these insights create a clearer picture of employee demand, making it easier to optimize budgets, reduce waste, and deliver a workplace experience employees genuinely value. As more organizations look for ways to strengthen engagement and create efficiencies in their workplace pantry programs, the teams that listen most effectively will be best positioned to adapt.
